Historias de Nuevo Mexico - Histories of New Mexico
Academic and Community Conference
at Northern New Mexico College
El Rito Campus, October 12 & 13, 2012

Bepowaveh.   Bienvenidos. Welcome.

New Mexico is a space with deep, complex histories that all need to be shared. The conference committee for the Historias de Nuevomexico - Histories of New Mexico welcome you in the multiple historic languages of our geopolitical region - Tewa, Spanish and English.  Simultaneously, while we privilege these three languages, we must also immediately make room for the langauges that have also shaped our region: Diné, Ute, Tiwa, Towa, Keresan, French, along with many others.  Just as our welcome highlights distinct, yet overlapping, linguistic cultures, the Historias de Nuevomexico invites participants to engage in the myriad perspectives that shape our understanding of New Mexico.  The model for investigating Historias/Histories that we would like to encourage is based in thinking about multiple spaces for multiple histories, not a single timeline for history.

Join as we engage in this dynamic conversation! Help us continue to define Nuevomexico history with your important perspectives.  This conference is sponsored by Northern New Mexico College, the NNMC Northern Pueblos Institute, the NNMC Chicana/o and Latina/o Studies Research Center, and Espejo.  We welcome academic and community scholars, as well as artists and activists, to participate.
