Call for Entries: Digital Desert Youth Film Festival 2012

The 4th annual Digital Desert Youth Film Festival is accepting film entries from all New Mexico students grades K-12.

Entry Criteria: The maximum length allowed is 5 minutes

  • There is no minimum length
  • There is no limit on the number of entries
  • Film entries can only be entered in one category
  • Keep all entries appropriate for school (PG-13 guidelines)

  • Must be a New Mexico student grades K-12 to enter

For all Films Submitted 

  • Entry form with parent/guardian signature must be completed for entry- REQUIRED

  • Talent release form must be completed for any one appearing in film entry. Responsibility of filmmaker to get appropriate signatures- REQUIRED

  • Please use original music, public domain music or music that was made by the student. You cannot use music that you don't have specific permission from the artist to use. You are responsible for obtaining permission for any music usage that might be in question prior to the submission of your film. If your need a music release form, please see the US Copyright Office's web page of forms: http://www.copyright.gov/forms/

  • Any music used in film with out copyright permission from original publisher or artist will not be accepted for entry

  • The films must be created, filmed and edited by the NM students. Adults can be involved only as advisers, instructors or mentors

  • Please submit your film as a .mov Quicktime with H.264 encoding (Please email with questions) on data DVD or flash drive.

  • Submissions cannot be returned
  • All entries must be submitted by April 9th

  • All APS Schools send entries via Inter-office mail (large manila envelopes with tie clasp) to Digital Desert Youth Film Festival: Valley High School

  • Entries will also be accepted in person Friday April 9th at Valley High School until 6pm.

Categories

  • Music Video: A short film or video that accompanies music. Songs must be orginal made by the student, royalty free, or have permission from the published artist. PLEASE FOLLOW COPYRIGHT LAWS!

  • Documentary: Non-fictional film that documents a real person or event.

  • Stop motion (or frame-by-frame): An animation technique used to make a physically manipulated object appear to move on its own.

  • Animation: The rapid display of a sequence of 2-D or 3-D artwork in order to create the illusion of movement.

  • Drama / Action: A story involving conflict, contrast of character, or action sequences as a form of exposition.

  • Comedy: Any comic or humorous incident or series of incidents.

  • Commercial: Advertisement or promotional announcement.

  • Zombie / horror: Conflict where the dead come back to life or main subject includes escaping or defeating a monster (human or non-human).

  • Experimental: Film genre featuring non-narrative, impressionistic or poetic approaches to the film's construction.
Judging Guidelines
  • Judges will pick three "Best in Show" winners and winners from each category.
     Judging is based on the following fields in digital film and production (See attached judging guide that will be used to score accepted entries):

  1. Narration / Acting / Character Dialogue
  2. Camera Use & Direction
  3. Shot Usage
  4. Lighting Quality
  5. Sound Track & Music Quality (No Copyright music w\o permission)
  6. Story / Message / Information
  7. Editing & Special Effects
  8. Judge's Overall Impression
