Library Policies

The library media center represents the single most important resource center available to students. Its collection includes a wealth of materials for informational and recreational reading purposes, as well as a computer lab consisting of 19 stations with internet access and two dedicated to the on-line card catalog. The library belongs to each member of the school. In order for it to be used most proficiently, it is necessary to be familiar with the following:

  • The library will be open from 7:30 a.m. until 3 :00 p.m . , Monday through Thursday.  On Friday, the library will b e open from7:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.  
  • Books may be borrowed for one week and renewed for an additional two weeks.  
  • Encyclopedias and other reference books may be borrowed for one night.
  • Back issues of periodicals may be borrowed for two nights.
  • No materials may be taken from the library media center without first being checked out at the circulation desk.
  • Each patron is held responsible for all library materials checked out in his/her name. A fine of $0.02 per day will be charged for overdue materials. Replacement costs will be charged for severely damaged or lost books.   
  • Patrons may cut articles and / or pictures from newspapers, but not from magazines.   
  • Students are not allowed to use the internet without first returning the Internet Acceptable Use Policy signed by both the student and a parent or guardian. This form can be found in the student handbook given to each student at the beginning of each school year.  
  • Students may not use the internet for personal e-mail, instant messaging, or recreational games, unless granted permission by a NKHS faculty or staff member.  
  • Please do not take any food or drinks into the computer lab area of the library media center.  
  • Students may visit the library during the school day with written permission from their classroom teacher. They should be prepared with all needed materials, such as assignments, texts, paper, and pen or pencil
