We are pleased to announce the publication of our new e-newsletter New Kent Learning and the connected New Kent Learning Blog.  Take a minute to read through the newsletter - it will be published weekly with lots of news, articles, and learning resources.  The blog will be updated as needed with important information and highlights of great learning and accomplishments in our schools!

6+1 Traits Writing

English Curriculum Documents

English curriculum documents are now posted and are available via the webpage menu links to the left.  Note, particularly, the vertical alignment, by grade-level, reading, writing, grammar, and research documents.  Very useful!

Virginia Board of Education approves BCRTC!

Today (June 28, 2012) the Virginia State Board of Education approved the application of the Bridging Communities Regional Technical Center to be the first regional career and technical center in Virginia in 25 years. Concurrently, the State Board of Education also approved the Bridging Communities' application to become the 15th Governor's STEM Academy in Virginia.  Bridging Communities is expected to open with over 100 students from the partnering school divisions including Charles City, King William, King & Queen, Middlesex and New Kent.  We are looking forward to welcoming these students in September to the newly renovated facilities located at the historic school.

VDOE SOL Test Resources

SOL Test preparation resources, including released SOL tests and practice items are available on the VDOE SOL Test Resource webpage.  There are many resources that are very beneficial as students are completing final preparations for Spring, 2012 SOL testing.

Congratulations to NKMS Band

Great job by the New Kent Middle School Band at the Kings Dominion Music Festival last week.  The NKMS band earned three trophies and a rating of "Superior", the highest possible rating.  Well done!
