About me...

My name is Laura Austin and I am very excited to be your child’s teacher this year.  I am originally from West Texas - a little town named Bronte (population 999), but I came to San Antonio as soon as I could.  I moved to the San Antonio area in 1982 and have lived here ever since

I graduated from Angelo State University in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science degree. My teaching certifications are in Social Studies, English, Reading, Health, P. E., and ESL.  This year begins my 28th year of teaching. I have been at Stinson for the past 16 years. It is a wonderful place to work. I have twin daughters, Anna and Libby. They both live in New Braunfels with their families.  I also have one exceptional grandson, Lucas, who will be in 5th grade this year. I love dogs, but I only have one - Baby Ella. Unfortunately Baby Ella doesn’t like other dogs. I also have one kitty who is appropriately named Kitty.  I love to garden and listen to detective mysteries on audio.

Every child deserves an education.  I feel that building a sense of trust in our classroom is essential for student success.  A safe atmosphere promotes student learning by making it possible to take risks and make mistakes.  We often learn more from our mistakes than anything else.

This school year, I will be teaching 7th Grade Texas History.  Your child will need to have a section in their big binder tabbed off for Social Studies.  We will be starting the year with the physical geography of Texas and then move on to human geography which includes our early Native Americans.  We have two CDBs this year. One is around Christmas and the other is in the spring. We do not have a History TAKS test in 7th grade. Hurray!

I am looking forward to a wonderful school year with your student.
