Clinical Rotation   Junior or Senior Lab Course

This is a hospital based class.  The first 6 weeks of school will be spent on campus for orientation, preparation for clinical sites and completion of the BLS CPR course.  Students will then rotate through University Medical Center and Audie L. Murphy Veterans Hospital units observing procedures and assisting health care professionals.  A clinical uniform and strict grooming standards are required to maintain professional standards and infection control.  Assignments for each rotation include writing a clinical report, researching independent study questions, and providing a base knowledge of each rotation site.  Fridays on spent on campus for classroom lecture.

Scientific Research & Design  Senior Lab Course

Scientific Research & Design program is a career technology course designed to pair up a student with a research scientist in order for the student to get hands on experience in a research setting. The course consists of practical application during lab time at the research facility (usually the UTHSC-SA) and didactics on the elements of scientific method theory with the SRD teacher. The investigator (as well as his staff) mentors the student through a research project during the full school year with the culmination being a formal oral presentation and a final technical research paper of the student’s project, data, and conclusions. The goal is to collect data to address a question which has an unknown outcome.
