ARRL Field Day 2023

Post date: June 16, 2023 3:00:00 PM

It is that time of the year again, Field Day is almost here! June 24-25 at a place near you. Please join us!

If anyone would like to participate in the most popular radio contest of the year please let us know. You do not need to be a ham to participate. Most of our membership joins other two groups during this event. One of them is the MARC club that this year will operate radio stations from a well-located and historical fire station in Damascus. See https://www.marcclub.org/mweb/fd2023/fd2023.html for further information.

Some of us will Join the Randallstown Amateur Radio Club (RARC) in the beautiful Washington Monument State Park in Middletown (or Boonsboro), near Frederick, by the Appalachian Trail. See here for details: http://www.icengineering.com/n3ic/rarc/fd23/

As usual, both locations will offer a "Get On The Air" (GOTA) activity, which will offer people with little or no radio operation experience the opportunity to learn and experience Ham Radio firsthand. This is a great way for new and not very active hams, and especially non-hams to have an impact on Field Day, as participants will actually score points in the event! We are extremely interested in increasing GOTA participation, so please consider inviting friends, family and neighbors to join us. We know for a fact that kids of all ages have a blast paying GOTA.

If you are not sufficiently familiar with the ARRL Field Day, or need material to invite others who are not familiar: it is the single most popular on-the-air event held annually in the US and Canada. Last year, over 30,000 hams participated in this 24 hour event that takes place the last weekend of June. Anyone can participate, even those without an amateur radio license (with help from a licensed ham). During the event, several educational and hobby activities take place aimed at educating the public of all ages about the relevance, tools and techniques of ham radio. The event is also intended to help hams practice skills that can be useful during a disaster situation that may require using radio communications to support our communities. Hams have played roles in disaster response for over 100 years (and every year we have more and better tools to do so). Hams are also MAKERS, we enjoy building electronic and mechanical devices and use technologies like 3d printing, software coding, and even artificial intelligence, and we use Field Day to show off and exercise some of our creations.

So, if you would like to join us in this Field Day, please contact us via info@nihrac.org and we will get you on board.
