S2 Connect

Welcome to S2 Connect where you can find information and materials to get you through the school year.

I am a New Haven Unified School District alum. I went to Pioneer Elementary, Alvarado Middle, and graduated from James Logan High School. I grew up in Union City and was raised in an extended household with my parents, grandparents, three siblings, uncles and aunties, sometimes cousins, and a few family friends. My upbringing was loud and crowded but there was always food on the table, music that filled our home, and lots of love. I received an A.A. in Liberal Arts at Chabot Community College. Afterwards, I attended Foothill Community College for couple of classes in graphic design and De Anza Community College for animation. I finally made a decision to transfer to San Francisco State University and received a B.A. in Asian American Studies. I spent a few years teaching with Pinay/Pinoy Educational Partnerships (PEP) (pepsf.org) and my PEP experience prepared me for the teaching credential program at Cal State East Bay. The theories, values, and practices I gained from PEP are central in who I am as an educator, mentor, and social justice activist.

I am entering my fifth year of teaching at Itliong-Vera Cruz Middle School. Everyday I feel lucky to teach in a place where I grew up. I am rooted in this community and I am a product of this community that wants to give back in the classroom. My identity as a teacher is constantly transforming.

Eighth grade year is practice for high school. As a teacher, I encourage that our students are agents of change to make our world better through kindness and humanization and purpose.

I look forward to sharing instruction on reading, writing, leadership, character development, project based learning, community building, and getting to know who you are as a student and a leader.
