Short Term Independent Study:

Did you know that in order to go on short-term independent study, the School Board has established that your student must have a good attendance record and have academic skills that are at grade level? Many parents ask for STIS if they have to pull their students from school for a week or slightly longer. But many don’t realize that their student doesn’t qualify. Past practice at HVC has been to allow any general education student to attempt STIS, and that will continue this year. But please be aware that starting in the next academic year, parents will have to meet in person with the Principal or Assistant Principal before being approved for STIS. At that meeting we will look at your student(s’) report card and attendance history. Please refer to Board Policy 6158 and the administrative regulations associated with them. http://www.nhusd.k12.ca.us/node/1228.
Please note that you must request paperwork and meet with the principal at least 5 school days before the first day of the absence.
