This student activity was started in 2007 by a group of students who wanted to used their love of musical theater to do good in the community. Each fall, 75+ cast and crew members perform a musical and donate the proceeds to a charity selected by the students. To date, SAMD has donated over $25,000. Sign-ups for auditions are announced in the spring at NHS and Pollard. Rehearsals begin in September and the show is performed October or November.  In 2017-2018 Student run board President is Julia Chase; Vice President is Isabel Dirks; Treasurer is Jackson Megar; Secretary is Meredith Saunders; Members at Large are Rosie McLaughlin, Sydney Fallon, Kenneth Crossman & Sara Kates.

Past shows include: 2007 Grease, 2008 Into the Woods, 2009 Anything Goes, 2010 Thoroughly Modern Millie, 2011 Footloose, 2012 West Side Story, 2013 Chicago, 2014 Rent, 2015 Legally Blond, 2016 FAME, 2017 Grease

Some past charities supported by SAMD include: Joplin High School Theater Arts Program, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Needham Coalition for Suicide Prevention, New England Center for Homeless Veterans, Cradles to Crayons, Dress for Success and Sage House.

"Thank you so much for your donation of $8000. It was so wonderful that you used your theatrical talents to support rebuilding the theatre program of the Joplin Schools! We are touched by your generous hearts. On behalf of our students, teachers and staff - Thank You!"  Sincerely, Joplin Schools
