About Us

The Speech Language Pathologists of New Hanover County Schools facilitate the development of effective communication skills in order for students to participate in educational, social, and vocational opportunities at school.  Our speech-language pathologists work as members of a school-based team to provide prevention, identification, assessment, eligibility determination, and remediation of students who have disorders in language, speech sound production, fluency, and voice. The skilled interventions provided by the NHCS Speech-Language Pathologists are based upon research-proven strategies designed to ensure access to the student’s curriculum and navigation through effective social interactions with peers and adults in the school environment.

New Hanover County Schools employs thirty-four speech-language pathologists who serve students from 3 years to 21 years. NHCS Speech-Language Pathologists hold Clinical Certificates of Competency through the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and are licensed by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists.
