RGMS Visual Arts Syllabus
Welcome to Roland Grise Visual Arts Class! The following are course descriptions for the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade art classes:
6th Grade Art- This class will focus on exploring and experimenting with a variety of art media & techniques. They will learn to apply the elements of art & principles of design as they create imagery as well as to communicate effectively. Cultural art, art history & art criticism is incorporated throughout the curriculum.
7th Grade Art- This class will focus on techniques and processes for working with a variety of materials. They will continue to apply the elements of art & principles of design as they create imagery as well as to communicate effectively. Students are required to plan more extensively for their art & create original imagery. Cultural art and art history are incorporated throughout the curriculum.
8th Grade Art- This class will continue to expose students to techniques, materials & art criticism, but the focus becomes more introspective. Students will continue to apply the elements of art & principles of design as they create imagery as well as to communicate effectively. They will study a variety of art & artists as well as learn to evaluate a work of art. Students choose media & techniques in order to achieve aesthetic solutions.
***********Throughout the semester, each student will also be required to keep a sketchbook to work on various drawing assignments where they will be expected to apply creative and critical thinking skills to artistically express themselves. Sketchbooks will also be used for journal entries which will require students to generate responses to a variety of prompts. I am looking forward to a great semester!

Sketchbooks: 20% Art Journals: 20-25%
Big Projects: 20%(ea) Small Projects: 5-10%(ea)
Tests/Quizzes: 15-20% Notes: 5-10%

Daily Expectations
All students are expected to bring a positive attitude & appropriate materials to class each day. They should be prepared to work individually as well in groups and participate in all classroom activities.

Absences
If a student is absent, they are expected to turn in any missing assignments or ask for work that may have been assigned upon their return to school. Students are welcome to access my planbook page as well as their google classrooms to see what activities took place during their absence.

Late Work Poilcy
Projects- Students will be given the opportunity to submit project for a regrade within one week of original due date. After that, work will be accepted for half credit only.
Sketchbooks- Students will be given the opportunity to submit sketchbook for a regrade within 24 hours of original due date. After that, sketchbooks will be accepted for half credit only.
Test/Quizzes- Students who miss a test or quiz should be prepared to make it up the next day they return to school.
Journals- Students may turn in missing journal assignments within 24 hour of original due date for credit. After that, journals will be accepted for half credit only.
***DUE Dates for all assignments will be listed in the google classroom for each class as well my planbook page.
