Article of the Week (AoW) was an idea I discovered after reading Kelly Gallagher's book Readicide and is meant to help students acquire the background knowledge that they need to become better readers and writers. The Article of the Week is meant to broaden students' knowledge base in preparation for the English II EOC, the AP English Language and Composition exam, their college courses, and life.
Articles are chosen from a variety of sources and vary in type and style to show students multiple perspectives on an issue as well as multiple types of sources of information. We do not always use online newspapers, online magazines, or websites. We may listen to podcasts and news broadcasts or look at primary source documents on an issue if available.
Links to articles will be posted here so parents/guardians can also read the articles and discuss the materials with their student.
