Welcome to NHHS. I would like to welcome the new students and the returning ones. This will be a challenging school year for everyone. I am learning just as you all will be. I plan on making every effort to provide a smooth transition into the Fall 2020/2021 school year. Please reach out with any concerns and questions you have. Your participation with the remote/online learning through canvas will be a must.

Mark Sokolinsky has been teaching for New Hanover County Schools since 2000. He earned his teaching license in LD and BED at UNCW in Wilmington, North Carolina. In addition to his teaching license, Mr. Sokolinsky has a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a minor in Religion Studies from Davis & Elkins College in Elkins, West Virginia. Prior to teaching at New Hanover High School, Mr. Sokolinsky worked at College Park Elementary School in the Intensive Behavioral Support Classroom.

This school year, 2020-2021 will be his 21th year teaching for NHCS with the Occupational Course of Study Prep 3, Intro to Math, Financial Management, and Math 1 classes. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, he has served as a member of the School Improvement Team, Student Support Team, Drop-out Prevention Committee, UNCW Intern Mentor.

Prior to his service in the New Hanover County School System, Mr. Sokolinsky was employed as an Intensive In-Home Family Counselor in the Wilmington area. Prior to that he was employed as a Substance Abuse Counselor working with adult offenders in the West Virginia Department of Corrections and a short and long term substance abuse inpatient program also in West Virginia. In addition, he has held a variety of employment experiences working in various group home facilities providing intensive life skills and personal care for children and adults.

Outside of the classroom, Mr. Sokolinsky spends his time with his friends and family. He has been involved in the local soccer community, where he has been a volunteer coach for over 13 years. He currently has taken a break from coaching to become a full time fan of his two sons who are playing competitive soccer. He enjoys the beach, mountains, fishing, music, and new experiences.
