STEM Application Procedures 2021

FOR 9th GRADE PRESTEM STUDENTS ONLY


Please complete by April 2nd


**If you choose not to participate in STEM and you are not districted for Laney, please understand that you could potentially be sent back to your districted school. You will need to complete the open choice application with NHCS by April 16th**


  1. GPA must be a 3.5 weighted (Fall GPA will be used, if below 3.5, GPA will be checked at the end of the school year) (Salley will collect this info.)


  1. Students must have taken and passed a STEM elective or double semesters of Math or Science Courses.  (Salley will collect this info.)


  1. Students must submit two teacher recommendations from a STEM elective teacher, or a Math, or Science Teacher.  Use the steps below for this process.

    1. Students must first verbally ask or email the teachers to complete a recommendation for them.


  1. Students then email both teachers from their school email account in order to give the teachers the recommendation link below. Do not just forward this email. Please send a formal request to teachers. https://forms.gle/XFf7aHrbyBCxQjbq9


  1. Mrs. Salley will receive the recommendation from the teacher via google forms.

· MarineQuest Turtle Trash Collectors now on Zoom (see attachment included)

· As part of our QuaranSTEAM efforts, UNCW Engineering Expectations is challenging kids and families to engineer a prototype face mask with items found in their home. Just like the Apollo 13 mission astronauts who experienced a most extreme form of social isolation in space along with hostile environmental conditions due to a buildup of CO2, you can only use supplies that you can find in your house (or spaceship) to engineer a solution.
