North Carolina School of Science and Math



Only students attending school in North Carolina are eligible to enter.

Projects may be entered in the following divisions:

  • Primary-Grades K-2 (Individual or Class Projects)
  • Elementary-Grades 3-4 (Individual or Class Projects)
  • Intermediate-Grades 5-6 (Individual or Class Projects)
  • Middle School-Grades 7-8 (Individual Projects)
  • High School-Grades 9-12 (Individual Projects)
Note:  If students are paired up with another student from a different division, they must compete in the higher division.  Ie. a 6th and 7th grader may pair up on a project, but will enter in the Middle School Division.


Key things to remember:

  • Class projects must involve a majority of the students in that class.
  • During the judging, each project must be represented by 1 or 2 students whose names appear on the project.
  • Individual projects involve one or two students only.
  • Projects must be pre-registered (online) to be accepted for competition, and an e-mail confirmation will be sent for each registration received once payment is received.
