Call for AIG Nominations
If you know a student in 6th, 7th, or 8th grade that is doing above grade level work and displays the potential to excel academically, now is the time to refer that student for AIG identification. Nominations for identification in Murray's AIG program will need to be submitted on the nomination form and given to Murray's Gifted Specialist, Mrs. Shook.
Please keep in mind that this testing is only a small piece of the identification process. Read more about the process here.
Se ha bajado una versión del proceso de nominación en español, la cual se encuentra al fondo de la página.
The Match Team members for the 2019-2020 school year consist of the following staff members: Katherine Hill, Grade Level Administrator, and the Student's Core Teacher(s).
A child can be nominated for the AIG program at any point during the academic year. At Murray Middle, for the 2019-2020 school year, the Match Team reviews AIG nominations once a year so please follow the due dates. The Match Team is a group of designated teachers/staff members at Murray Middle that follow the New Hanover County AIG guidelines for identification.
In order to be considered for the AIG program, a nomination packet must be completely filled out. You may request a packet by contacting Mrs. Shook. Only nominations that have all of the required components will be reviewed by the Match Team.
If you think your child may qualify for AIG services, please review the characteristics of gifted students which can be found in the document titled, "Characteristics of a Gifted Child" at the bottom of this page. Reading through this information will help you initially evaluate whether your child possesses a multitude of these traits, and specifically the areas in which they demonstrate these strengths.
If your child is already identified as an AIG student in New Hanover County then you do not need to go through this process again. Once a child is identified he/she does not lose his/her AIG label; thus reapplication is unnecessary.
If your child has been identified in another county, please submit all paperwork that you may have and contact Mrs. Shook as soon as possible. The Match Team will need to meet determine if your child meets the NHCS requirements to be eligible for AIG services.
If a student qualifies for the AIG program, the child’s teachers will be notified but the student will not change teams/classes. He/she will be placed in an AIG cluster group the following year.
