He was the Principal for Lillian Schumacher Elementary. His undergraduate and post graduate degrees are all from CMSU and he has a lifetime teaching certificate for K-8 and lifetime administrative certificate. He was on staff at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church running the K-2 program for two years and was on staff at Briar Cliff Chapel and started their K-5 children's ministry.  Mike and his wife are now members of Northern Hills Baptist Church where he is the leader for Men's Ministry.
Mike is married to his wonderful wife Jana - who also retired from teaching at Liberty School District.  They have been married for 35 years and are
lucky enough to have a daughter that is an instructional coach for the Shawnee Mission School District and a son that is a History Teacher at Liberty High School and a Baseball Coach.
Mike and his family were members of PVBC in Liberty and he served in several capacities.
He participated in their Easter Pageant throughout the years including playing the role of Jesus. He has been crucified 21 times!  His passions include following the Lord, spending time with family, working with staff and students and anything connected with the outdoors. He loves to play sports, hunt and fish!
It has really been fun to watch this school grow in size and ability to serve students.  They are getting a fantastic education and even more important a great exposure to Christian values and exposure to the Gospel.  Our goal is to allow students to gain a personal relationship with Jesus while also gaining in academic skills.  Many of our students are being baptized.  We work hand in hand with the parents, their churches and our programs to help them see the importance of a personal relationship with our Lord.

Mindy Melnychuk – Preschool Teacher (4-5 yr olds) & Kindergarten Enrichment

In 2008 they moved to the United States and have lived, studied and worked in many locations as they strive to walk with the Lord in what he has for them. Personally, she loves reading, baking, and getting “back to the basics of life”. Spending time in the garden, watching her chickens, playing games , and taking walks with her family are her favorite ways to spend time. A deep love for God’s true and unchangeable Word and the joy and openness of sharing that with children is what draws her to teaching Pre-K and Kindergarten at NHCA and NHBC for the last two years.

Lisa Haney - Gifted Teacher

Oh, that was a hot afternoon in May of 1984 when I graduated from William Jewell with a B.A. in Elementary Education. I set out to enjoy my lifelong dream of being a teacher! I have never looked back! First teaching at Independence Christian School in Kindergarten, I was blessed to have the ABeka curriculum as a guide. That initial year was followed by 28 years in the Kearney R-1 School District where I enjoyed 2nd , 4th , and 5th grades for 22 years and then finished with 6 years facilitating gifted education. I hold a certificate in Missouri for Gifted Educationgrades K-12 following extensive studies at University of Iowa and University of Missouri. MyMaster’s degree in Curriculum Design with Integration of the Arts was completed in 1990 from Lesley University in Cambridge, MA. I have coached gifted children in many contests including Odyssey of the Mind, National Geographic History Bee, and Battle of the Brains.

To work in a church setting is nothing new as I was the weekly children’s sermon speaker for
several years at our church, Paradise Methodist, near Smithville Lake. Before that, I was a VBS
director for Kearney Methodist Church for two years. Children, Christ, and education go togetherin my mind!

How did I end up here? Following my retirement, I volunteered as a chapel speaker for NHCA for two years. The warmth and joy I felt from this staff led to a natural fit of this new position where I look forward to starting a gifted/enrichment program called IGNITE!

If I am not at school, what is going on with me? I’ve been married to Ed Haney for 30+ years and we live in Kearney. A few years after our marriage, we started raising one of my students and now we are enjoying the life of being grandparents! We have a family glass business. My hobbies include piano, writing poetry, travel, and photography.

She also likes to keep busy with Bible Studies, reading, traveling and walking.

Sherry Rowe - Volunteer

Volunteering is a very important part of my life.  That is how I began working with children in a professional capacity working at Joplin Cerebral Palsy Center.  I volunteered and they liked me so well they hired me.  I graduated from Missouri Southern State University located in Joplin, MO with a four year degree in teaching (BSE).  My husband and I are members of Northern Hills Baptist Church.  Traveling to visit family (especially our 9 grandchildren scattered across the US), camping at various campgrounds (in our fifth-wheel), and our pets (2 dogs and a cat) helps to balance us in our retirement years.  My concentration now is serving God in all the ways He makes available to me.  Singing in the Praise Team at church, volunteering at NHCA, and attending Skip Hessel's class on Sunday mornings is a very important part of our week.  Being an artist is just another talent Jesus has helped me use toward helping others.  Help others serve Christ.
