How often have you wondered what your students' writing is supposed to look like at grade level? This has been the question I have been hearing in many grade team and inquiry meetings lately. The Common Core Standards includes an appendix C that has sample student writing. For each grade from K-12, there are annotated examples of actual student writing that specifically note what the student is doing in their writing. In your next grade team meeting or department meeting, spend some time as a group reading through the samples of your grade level and identify one specific place to start.
