The New York Times provides an Op-Ed section with a series of powerful short videos about current event issues. The video series touches on everything from a re-enactment of the deposition of the Ferguson case, to deep diving for scallops, to banning toy guns as gifts. Since many of you like to incorporate current events into your unit and even advisory, consider using these video to target engagement, another context strategy for your ELLs and teaching your students how to take notes from a video. Below you will find a sample op-ed video about "Growing up Black", an extremely moving piece from the point of view of young black men. You will also find a link to the website as well as suggested activities on how to use the NY Times Op-Ed series in your class.
