Language Arts

Welcome to 6th grade Language Arts at Newport Middle School! I am very excited to be your teacher! Together we will be learning new ways to use this wonderful language we call English!

This year we will be studying grammar. The focus of 6th grade grammar includes subjects and predicates, prepositions, pronouns, as well as compound and complex sentences.

Writing is also a priority in 6th grade. We learn how to write descriptively with interesting word choices and longer, more complex sentences. 10% summaries, text dependent analyses, and some creative writing fill up our curriculum.

Vocabulary is an important part of 6th grade, and we will incorporate the study of vocabulary into what we are reading and writing.

Reading is always a focus as well. We will write about the fiction and non-fiction pieces that we read.
