Subject: RootsCamp MA: An invitation and call to action

Dear ______,

RootsCamp MA is the weekend of April 25-26, 2015 in Boston. Progressive organizers from across the state will gather to share lessons learned, discuss best practices, and move our movement forward. We think you have a unique perspective to bring to this effort, and we invite and encourage you to attend!

Join us to discuss the successes and challenges facing progressive organizers, and help us create a diverse, powerful, inclusive gathering of passionate activists. Come with your organizing challenges, and leave with solutions that make your efforts stronger and better.

Since 2006, beginning as an initiative of the New Organizing Institute, RootsCamps have provided a rare opportunity for the progressive community to come together. RootsCamps employ a simple yet innovative participatory "unconference" model, where attendees set the agenda and conversation is fast-paced and engaging.

Learn more and register at www.rootscampma.org Tickets are $20 and include breakfast, lunch and snacks for two days. A limited number of $10 tickets are available. We are able to keep registration fees low with the support of many sponsoring organizations. Get involved and spread the word -- make sure your organization or community is well represented!

Join us. Bring your perspective and curiosity. Promote your campaign. Participate. Suggest or facilitate a workshop session. Meet and gain insight from organizers working across the spectrum of progressive issues and campaigns. Grow a network of new friends and collaborators in one weekend. Build capacity and sustainability across Massachusetts’ progressive movement.

In Solidarity,

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

RootsCamp MA - For Organizers, By Organizers Attendees Call the Shots at Progressive “Unconference”

RootsCamp MA (April 25-26, 2015 at 1199SEIU in Dorchester) shakes up the traditional conference model. Workshop proposals are not submitted far in advance. Instead attendees decide an agenda together each morning of the "unconference." This allows participants to have meaningful and in-the-moment conversations about their work.

This is cross-issue progressive movement building, where all attendees bring what they know and what they are curious about. They establish lasting new partnerships with other organizers from all over the region. This "unconference" model builds on the success of 2013 & 2010 RootsCamp MA and national RootsCamps in DC dating back to 2006.

“Unconferences take advantage of the fact that we all have ideas and talents to contribute, as well as things to learn,” said Jessica Critcher, co-organizer of Socializing for Justice, one of several lead sponsors of the conference. "Everyone is welcome to attend. You do not have to be affiliated with an organization or active with a campaign."

Organized in just 10 weeks by volunteers, this event has gained the support of many including Gold Sponsors: NGP VAN, Socializing for Justice, and Third Sector New England. With the help of our sponsors and partners, RootsCamp MA organizers are committed to making this an accessible event for a diverse group of attendees. Tickets are priced on a sliding scale of $10-$20, which includes breakfast, lunch and snacks for two days. Children are welcome to attend. Limited discounted housing available at Hostelling International Boston for attendees from outside of metro Boston area.

More information about the event, as well as the most up to date list of sponsors and partner organizations, may be found at www.RootsCampMA.org.
Tickets are $20 and include breakfast, lunch, and snacks for two days. A limited number of $10 tickets are available. Sponsorships of $100, $250, and $500 help keep the ticket price accessible.
