What is a Passive House?

Somehow we got a little carried away during the 20th century with lots of great ideas for heating and cooling homes that made sense then because energy was cheap and we believed that fossil fules would supply abundant energy forever with no negative consequences.

We also though that smoking was good for you.

Before the 20th century we applied common sense to the way we oriented buildings and used the earth as a natural insulator (remember grandma's basement storage for canned foods). This ancient wisdom is now being integrated with 21st century materials and technology to create buildings that only need a very small amount of energy to provide all we need.
