For the Nelson varsity boys basketball team last Thursday, the combination of a tough environment and an unusual break was too much to overcome, and the Governors suffered their sixth loss of the season, 62-36, at Riverheads.
According to Nelson coach Brian Wilson, while his players showed some fight, coming up with a few good defensive spurts, they never could get going offensively.
Some of his players who’ve been playing well lately couldn’t find the bottom of the basket, he said, and they turned the ball over more “than we would’ve liked.”
“We just had a hard time ever really getting into a rhythm,” he said.
Going forward, they’ll need to continue to cut down on the mistakes and turn defense into offense more efficiently.
“We just need to be more consistent and keep our eyes focused on where we can be and not where we are,” Wilson said. “I believe we’re still heading in the right direction; I just think it’s going to take us time to get there.”
