    About Us

    Our Mission

At Nelson Middle School, our primary mission is to create an atmosphere for learning.  By encompassing individual learning styles and talents, we strive to develop students capable of making responsible and intelligent choices.  We encourage our students to establish a positive self-identity, to develop critical thinking skills, and to embrace a system of values.

    Our School

Nelson Middle School is located one mile south of Lovingston in the center of Nelson County, Virginia.  The only middle school in the county, NMS is home to approximately 450 students, 40 teachers, and 15 support staff.  Nelson Middle School is fully accredited by the Commonwealth of Virginia and has made Adequately Yearly Progress (AYP) toward the federal No Child Left Behind (NCLB) requirements.

Nelson Middle School offers a strong academic program in traditional core subjects plus excellent arts and career programs.  Students can choose to participate in a wide variety of clubs and organizations that meet both during the school day and after school.  Students in all grade levels can participate in NMS athletics and eighth grade students are eligible to join NCHS athletic teams.

The Mustang is the school mascot and the official colors are green and white.  To learn more about Nelson Middle, please read News & Announcements or the latest Mustang Newsletter.
