Our Chinese guests are here to experience American culture. Treat them as you would any other guest, checking for their likes and dislikes. Be sure to explain what things are. For example, refried beans in Mexican food may or may not look like anything else they have eaten. (In Japan they would look like a specialty, mashed crab brains.) Often it is difficult to transfer experiences of food. Sometimes things that are sweet are salty.
Please offer the food several times. It is polite not to accept more food or drink on the first offering.
Any food that you would serve an American guest is suitable. Remember that tap water is never drunk in China. Your guest may ask for a cup of hot water.
