Academic Resources

If you are having difficulty in a class, it is important that you speak directly with your teacher - they are the best resource!  Beyond that, there are several resources that can help students in a variety of ways.

Writing Center
NHS offers a peer writing center to help students with any aspect of a writing assignment.  Peer tutors are upperclassmen who are skilled in the writing process and can provide feedback, suggestions and insight to students who need help with an assignment.  From a strong thesis to great supporting structure, students love the help they receive from this center.  The center is open Tuesday/Thursday afternoons from 2:45 - 3:45 in Rm. 719.

Math Tutors
NHS is lucky to have retired teachers from the community who volunteer their time on during the school day to support students in math.  Drop in to Room 205 for this great support - no appointment necessary!  Students can take advantage of this before school, after school or during any study period they may have.   These tutors are often able to help students in science topics as well (physics, chemistry). Visit the Math Help Room Calendar for specific hours.

National Honor Society (NHS) Peer Tutors
NHS tutors are upperclassmen who volunteer their time to help students who may need extra support in a class.  To connect with an NHS student, please visit Mr Stanczak, or your School Counselor in the Guidance Office.  In addition to NHS students, Ms. Ayoub keeps a list of other students who may be available to tutor.

Graphic Organizers (to support writing) and other tools
Ms. Palmer of our Personalized Learning Center (PLC) has a page full of academic supports that are available on her website - check them out!

Outside Tutors
We strongly encourage students to take advantage of all of the resources listed above - they are valuable, free resources.  If you would like additional support from an outside tutor you should contact the appropriate department head for any list they may have of teachers who are available to tutor students.  NHS does not endorse other commercial tutoring programs.
