About Ms. Major

My Philosophy

I love helping students to be successful!!  My goal is to provide individualized instruction that will allow students to develop the essential skills they each need to succeed in the general ed classroom.  I strongly believe that students who work hard and experience success because of their hard work will develop the confidence necessary to become independent, responsible adults.  In my classroom, I encourage my students to work hard, have a positive attitude and be respectful and considerate of others.

My Experience

During my training at Utah State University, I learned the basic components of providing effective instruction for students with disabilities. These components include: high rates of response, systematic and explicit instruction, teaching to mastery, and high rates of praise.  The curriculum and programs that I use incorporate these components in all of my instruction and have resulted in high rates of student success.

Positions held before coming to Mapleton Elementary include:
  • Special Educational Needs Teacher at Perchersk School International, Kiev, Ukraine
  • Adjunct Faculty, research and student supervision at Brigham Young University
  • Special Ed Resource Teacher at North Park Elementary, Tremonton, Utah
