The Nea PTSA welcomes your participation. You can help on the fundraisers or at the school or community events.
Below you will find a tentative list of the PTSA activities -- each one is described briefly here, and links to its own event details page where you can get more information as it becomes available.
Initially we thought as a school, we would ask for money via Support Nea Now and not do any other fundraisers. But as the first year of Nea unfolded, parents wanted additional ways to contribute, so they created some additional fundraisers. If you have other ideas for fundraisers – go for it! And let us know how the PTSA can support your endeavors.
Support Nea Now - In our first year we organized Support Nea Now (SNN) to supplement the bare bones budget from the state and give our kids better access to music, art, field trips and computers. SSN is a pledge drive and our largest fundraiser of the year!
Motown and Margaritas - This is a great evening event for adults only that includes dinner, a silent auction, a band, and the best margaritas this side of the Mexican border.
Walk-a-thon - An incredibly fun “learner powered” fundraising event. Learners get approximately two weeks to have friends, neighbors, and family sponsor them for the walkathon - either a per-lap or flat-fee donation. During the event, all learners walk as may laps as they can in the time allotted while listening to music, enjoying healthy snacks, and having fun walking with their friends. In the past, this event has raised between $14-15k.
Escrip/Nob Hill/BoxTops - An awesome way for the school to earn passive income. The more people sign up the more money that comes to the school. The PTSA will be at events ready to sign you up and activate your cards.
A Morning Cup - Coffee in the mornings at the Lower Village
Kids Movie Series - Alameda Theater summertime kids movies series.
Facilitator Luncheons - Bi-monthly, the Social Events Committee organizes a luncheon for the facilitators for their “first Wednesday of the month” staff meeting. Every-other-month, we’ll visit a different region of the world. Parent volunteers prepare dishes and the lunch meeting area is decorated according to the theme. Volunteers are solicited via the Nea listserv.
Recess/Lunch Support for Lower Village - The PTSA coordinates volunteers who provide support to learners at recess. Recess support is a great way to see how our learners interact with each other in an informal setting while helping to provide a safe environment for their playtime activities.
Talent Show - The Nea community comes together to enjoy the talents of our learners. Light refreshments are served during the performance. Start getting your act together for this amazing talent show!
Thanksgiving - A wonderful tradition at Nea. Every year, the entire school comes together and enjoys a traditional feast on the blacktop (weather permitting). All food and beverages are provided by the Nea community. And this is a place where our Green Team helps make this a zero-waste event.
Green Team - This is a Nea/PTSA partnership committee, with Green Team members consisting of parents, facilitators, and learners. You can get involved with campus recycling, walk-and-roll to school days, and other green initiatives at Nea.
Back to school night - The PTSA will be there to answer your questions about how to get involved in school-related activities. And, of course, we welcome your donation at this event.
Welcoming new families - An ice cream social and community get-together before school begins. Usually held in late August.
Movie Nights - The Nea Social Events Committee or Dad’s Club will host 2-3 movie nights a year. All films are kid appropriate and popcorn/water are served. This is also a fundraiser for the PTSA.

Other ways to help
Besides PTSA related activities, there are other ways to be involved at Nea. Some of them include:
Nea Governing Board - This Governing Board includes two Nea parents, learners, facilitators, and other members of the CLCS community. This board has monthly meetings throughout the school year (announced on the Listserv) and welcomes parents to attend. They notify the parent community when there are opening on the Board. This is the place to take concerns about the school. There are sub-committes of the board (also available for you to join). These include:
CLCS - Community Learning Center Schools (CLCS) is the nonprofit corporation that manages both Nea Community Learning Center (NeaCLC) and Alameda Community Learning Center (ACLC). The CLCS Board consists of Nea and ACLC parents, facilitators and others. They hold monthly board meetings (announced on the Listserv) and parents are welcome to attend the public sessions.
