Nelson P. Guillen
Intended Major:
IT Management and Economics

My name is Nelson Guillen, and I am a first year student at the University of Notre Dame with an intended double major in IT Management and Economics. I am originally from Phoenix, AZ and am the first in my family to graduate from high school and attend college. The values my parents have instilled in me through their hard work to ensure my siblings and I have the education they didn't have, have made me a determined and goal-oriented individual.
I am very concerned with Globalization and Technology, and they way they both affect economies and education systems around the world. As a result, I enjoy reading books by Malcolm Gladwell such as The Tipping Point and by Thomas Friedman such as The World is Flat and Hot, Flat and Crowded as well as articles by Andrew Keen such as "Web 2.0" and by Lawrence Lessig such as "In Defense of Piracy." During my free time, I participate in several outdoor activities including running, rowing, and kayaking.
