How to Apply?

Update Feb 2014:

Interested parents and students: Registration for 2014-2015 is now OPEN. Our requirements are listed below. We only have a very limited number of remaining spots for 9th grade.

Steps to complete your application:

#1 - Read the letter from Mr. Thorson our principal.

#3 - Ask your math teacher or science teacher to complete the online recommendation
#4 - Ask your counselor or principal to complete the online recommendation
#5 - After you submit your application, we will call or email to set up an interview.
#6 - Students with an incomplete application including recommendations will be placed on our waiting list. 

Our requirements for eighth graders:

Meet the following:
  • GPA of 85 or better in core subjects (English, math, & science)
  • Enrolled in Algebra I or the highest level of math at your middle school
  • Composite score of 18 or better on the ACT EXPLORE. Students with an EXPLORE Composite below 17 will be placed on our waiting list. Students should receive these results from their counselor by December 2013.  
Other factors:
  • Interest in: computer science, robotics, engineering, cybersecurity, game technology, app design, biomedical technology, certified nursing and licensed practical nursing, and music production and digital media
  • Attendance, work ethic, and classroom behavior
  • Recommendations

If you are moving in from out of state - please contact our office either by the online application or calling (256) 428-7800 (Mrs. Torre Hanvey) so we may reserve a spot for 2014-15.

You may apply online or by paper application. Online is preferred, however applications are available under Forms. The Student Application and all recommendations may be completed online. All information is kept secure. When your application is complete in the New Century office, we will schedule an interview. The following components are required for a complete application:
  • Student Application
  • Teacher Recommendations (Math and one other)
  • Principal or Counselor Recommendation
  • Academic Record
    • Current Grades
    • Most Recent Test Scores (usually 8th grade EXPLORE results)

New for 2014 - 2015 - the optional performance track will allow students to participate in the Fine Arts magnet program at Lee High School.
