Charlotte Observer: Would-be gardeners learn to grow food

It doesn't take much to grow food at home.

A five-gallon bucket can produce salad for dinner. Blueberries can thrive near backyard azaleas. Even tiny side yards or balconies can make room for a few tomato plants.

This was the message that more than 300 visitors heard Saturday at Mecklenburg County's first celebration of National Food Day.
