About Our Team

The Team:
  • We are Group 1420 and our plan is to conduct a White Ribbon project through the use of the DASH (Dating Abuse Stops Here) foundation. This foundation was started by one of Nick's neighbors who's 19-year-old daughter was murdered by her ex-boyfriend in 2009. Her devastated parents wanted to find a way to reach out to the community to help other's and victims of dating violence. More about their story can be found in the link below. We plan on setting up a booth in one of the local town centers and passing out information, bracelets, ribbons and other resources to the public to raise awareness. Hopefully by doing this we can start to encourage teens to engage in healthy relationships, know the warning signs, and know that there are always places they can go to find help. We hope to further examine and inform ourselves and others to the violence between men and women in relationships.

The Team Members:
  • Nick Ransom: I am a 20-year-old male from the busy and diverse city of Fairfax, Virginia, which is located right outside of DC. I am a rising Junior at NC State majoring in Civil Engineering. I hope to gain many new perspectives from this course through the eyes of various authors and speakers.  One day I hope I can raise my own children with a sense of understanding and equality towards all others. If not in my own lifetime, but theirs, I hope the world becomes a friendlier and more accepting place.
  • Brianna Smith: I am a 24-year old female from Erie, Pennsylvania. I am a rising junior at North Carolina State University. I am majoring in Nuclear Engineering with minors in Physics and Mathematics. I am active duty in the United States Navy. My hopes for the future would be to serve my country for the rest of my contract and then to teach math or physics to high school students. I love working with young adults and I hope that I can generate a love of science and engineering in others. I would love to continue my studies in education as well as in engineering and math.
