Frank and Mary Fetchet recently presented a check for $15,000 from the Bradley J. Fetchet Memorial Foundation to the New Canaan High School Scholarship Foundation, chaired by principal Dr. Bryan Luizzi.
These funds were raised last September at the Fetchet foundation’s 10th annual charity golf tournament.
The Fetchets established the Bradley J. Fetchet Memorial Foundation as a charitable scholarship fund in their son Brad’s memory after his death on Sept. 11, 2001.
The purpose of the foundation is to make grants to enable need-based scholarships at New Canaan High and Bucknell University. Although the Fetchet family had initially intended to sunset the golf tournament after this year, Chris and Wes Fetchet, brothers of Brad and graduates of New Canaan High School and Bucknell, have decided to take up the reins and continue the tradition. The foundation’s next charity golf tournament is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 17, at the country Club of New Canaan. More information can be found at bradfetchet.com.
The scholarship money raised by the Fetchet foundation is a “potent reminder of the rising costs of college tuition, coupled with increased financial hardship in our community,” according to a release.
To help bridge that gap, the New Canaan High School scholarship Foundation is hosting “Scholarship Sunday” on March 25, 2012.
Donations may be handed to the student volunteers on Scholarship Sunday, sent by mail to the NCHS Scholarship Foundation, New Canaan High School, 11 Farm Road, New Canaan, CT 06840, or made online at www.nchsscholarship.org. Checks should be made out to NCHS Scholarship Foundation.
