BYOD @ NCASD : Bring Your Own Device

Technology has become an integral part of teaching and learning in the New Castle Area School District. To be able to live, learn, and work successfully in our information-rich society, students must be able to utilize technology effectively
. With many students owning mobile computing devices and frequently using these devices for their school work while at home, the District has recognized the need to allow students to utilize their own technology in a more seamless way at school.

With this in mind, the New Castle Area School District is piloting a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program in an effort to foster 21st Century teaching and learning and empower our students to maximize their learning experiences. This pilot program will include the Accelerated 6 students at George Washington Intermediate and students in grades 7-12 at New Castle Jr.-Sr. High School.

To learn more about BYOD and its implementation , please review the various resources and tools in the navigation menu to the left, including the original Electronic Device Policy #237 and the recently approved Administrative Regulation (AR) to the policy. Let us emphasize that this initiative DOES NOT require students to purchase and/or bring outside technology to school, as all students will continue to be able to utilize our school equipment. Rest assured that no students will be left out of classroom learning activities if, in fact, they do not have their own device.

While we understand that there will be some challenges along the way, we look forward to the educational opportunities that BYOD will bring to our students and staff. As we begin this endeavor, we ask for your cooperation and support, and we welcome your suggestions and feedback.
