Master Chief Robert A. Hodges is assigned as the Naval Science Instructor at Warren Central High School, Vicksburg, Mississippi.
Master Chief Hodges was born in Miami, Florida on January 24, 1957, and graduated from South Miami Senior High School in 1975. He went on to earn his Associate’s Degree from Florida State University and entered the Navy on 15 September 1982. He completed recruit training in Orlando, Florida and Electronics Technician Class “A” School in Great Lakes, Illinois. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in November 2008 from Columbia Southern University graduating Summa Cum Laude.
Master Chief Hodges’ follow on tours include Naval Station Rota, Spain and LABRADOR (TWR 681) in New London, Connecticut where he qualified Underway Officer of the Deck and Craftmaster as well as advanced to Petty Officer First Class. During his next assignment in 1990 at Service School Command Great Lakes, Illinois, he was advanced to Chief Petty Officer. In 1993 he executed orders to the USS UNDERWOOD (FFG 36) in Mayport, Florida where he completed two successful deployments to the Red Sea and Persian Gulf. In 1996 he was transferred to Shore Intermediate Maintenance Activity (SIMA), Mayport, Florida, where he served as the Assistant Safety Officer and was advanced to Senior Chief. His highly successful tour at SIMA culminated in his selection as the Navy’s Occupational Safety and Health Specialist of the Year in 1998. In 1999 he reported to the USS GETTYSBURG where he advanced to Master Chief Petty Officer and was selected to serve as a Command Master Chief. Master Chief Hodges’ first assignment as a Command Master Chief was in VFA-115 where he served during combat operations in support of OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM onboard USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN. His follow-on tour was to HSC-25 forward deployed in Guam where in 2006 he was selected to become the first Command Master Chief of Navy Recruiting Region West. Master Chief Hodges served his final tour on active duty as the Command Master Chief for Naval Support Activity Mid-South, Millington, Tennessee.
Master Chief Hodges was selected for the Command Master Chief Program in December of 2000. He graduated from the Senior Enlisted Academy in July of 2001 as Class 97’s Academic Excellence Award Winner.
Master Chief Hodges’ awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (six awards), and Good Conduct Medal (eight awards), as well as numerous organizational and unit awards. Master Chief Hodges is married to the former Bambi Lynn Rockwood of Amenia, New York. They reside in Vicksburg, Mississippi with their three cats Blackie, Mr. Spoke and Miss Prissy.
