The Cadet Creed
Welcome to the Area Five Internet site. Area Five encompasses the Mid-Atlantic Region (VA,MD, and DC)...
Happy New Year!
I hope everyone had a safe holiday period...First semester is finishing or has already finished for some schools. Keeping focused until the end of the school year is always a challenge. Juniors are not promoted until the Seniors graduate and they successfully complete the school year. Don’t succumb to “Senioritis”!
Units, schools and communities will be getting more active as the weather becomes better. Keep your efforts up to sustain your progress in achieving the goals that you established for this year. Review your target performance measures and track your performance to achieve them. Check with your feeder schools to encourage the rising-freshman (8th graders) to consider NJROTC as an option for next year.
For the Leadership Academy and STEM Camps, ensure that all the requirements and paperwork are prepared and submitted to your instructors for review and ultimate submission to the Area Five Office.
Juniors should be working their packages for review by NROTC and Service Academies in anticipation of the Scholarship applications opening in April of 2014.
I am continuing to make Inspection visits this year provided funding is available. The budget continues to be a major factor in all discussions.
Impacts on the future programs available to NJROTC Cadets are anticipated but still undefined. We sustain our viability but being good stewards and getting lots of good press from our Units.
This will be my last year as Area Manager, my plan is to retire 1 April. I expect there will be an announcement to find my successor.
Meanwhile, I will continue to look for high performance throughout the Area. "Keep a steady strain", adapt and overcome, and "Git 'er done!"
CAPT Bob Gumpright,
NJROTC AREA 5 Manager
