NJROTC End-of-Year Awards Ceremony
& Banquet
Congratulations to all of the Cadets and Seniors who were recognized at the End-of-Year Awards Ceremony. It was a great evening showcasing the achievements of our hardworking Cadets.


The Cadets participated in a volunteer opportunity at Must Ministries on Saturday, May 7th, 2016. 

Adopt-a-Mile/Cookout/Kickball Game
Cadets performed an Adopt-a-Mile cleanup of the roads surrounding Hillgrove on Monday, March 28th, 2016. This activity counts towards the Cadets Community Service Hours. 

Physical Fitness Test
The Bi-Annual Physical Fitness Test was administered in class to all Cadets on Thursday, March 31st. The test consists of Curl-Ups, Right-Angled Push Ups and a 1-mile Run.  In order to participate, cadets must have a 2015/2016 CCSD Sports
  • The NJROTC Physical Fitness Ribbon will be presented to cadets who attain satisfactory rating or better in each of the three events.
  • The NJROTC Physical Fitness Ribbon with bronze lamp will be presented to cadets who attain a "good" (60%) rating in each of the three events.
  • The NJROTC Physical Fitness Ribbon with silver lamp will be presented to cadets who attain an "excellent" (70%) rating in each of the three events.
  • The NJROTC Physical Fitness Ribbon with gold lamp will be presented to cadets who attain an "outstanding" (85%) rating in each of the three events.
Donations for
National Desert Storm Veteran's War Memorial
We collected $735 in donations during the week of March 21st for the National Desert Storm Veteran’s War Memorial in Washington D.C.  This memorial will be constructed on or near the National Mall and will stand in memory of those who served in the Gulf War during 1991.

Area 12 (State) Brain Brawl Championship
Congratulations to the Academics Team consisting of Jason Viscardi, Jared Walker, Jake Minta, Jadie Smith, and Mason Harbour. They finished 13th in the Area 12 Brain Brawl Championship on Saturday, March 19th, in Jacksonville, Florida.  

Orienteering Meet Palisades East
There was a non-sanctioned Orienteering Meet on Sunday, March 20th, 2016 at Palisades East CRNRA (Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area) for those interested. 

Area 7 GHSA (Georgia High School Association)
 Rifle Championship

Congratulations to the Varsity Rifle Team for finishing 11th in the Area 7 Rifle Championship on Friday, March 11th, 2016.


Area 12 (State) Drill Championship
Congratulations to our Drill Team. They finished 5th in the State for Personal Inspection and Curl-Ups and placed 9th Overall in the State.  Big Thanks to all of the families who came out to support our Cadets.

Rifle Matches on February 23rd & 25th

On Tuesday, February 23rd, the Varsity Rifle Team beat Lassiter High School for the first time with a score of 1076-1003.

On Thursday, February 25th, they lost their match to Douglas City with a score of 1082-1052 and finish 2nd in their Sub Region. They head to the Championship on March 11th.

Visit to National Infantry Museum and
Auburn University
During the Winter Break, a group of Cadets had a very informative and enjoyable visit to the National Infantry Museum and Auburn University. We would like to thank Valerie Wheeler Jones and Pamela Jones for chaperoning the Cadets.
Adopt-a-Mile & Cookout
On Saturday, February 6th, 2016, Cadets had fun and made the mile around Hillgrove a lot cleaner. Following the Adopt-a-mile cleanup, we had a small cookout to feed our hungry cadets prior to departing for the annual Hockey game to root on the Gladiators.

Following the Adopt-a-Mile Cleanup/Cookout on February 6th, a group of Cadets had a great evening together watching a Gladiators hockey game. 

Area 12 (State) Rifle Championship

Our Navy JROTC air rifle team finished 12th in the state at the Area 12 state air rifle championships on Saturday, January 30th, 2016. This was the first time ever that Hillgrove made it to the air rifle championships. Good job to Johnson Kamau, Zachary Lewis, Jake Minta, and Mathieu Gazaille.

Rifle Match Against Haralson

Congratulations to the the Varsity Rifle Team for winning their Rifle Match against Haralson High School on Thursday, February 4th, 2016 with a score of 1037-917. Hillgrove remains undefeated in their sub-region.

Area 12 (State) Orienteering Championship

Congratulations to our Orienteering team who finished runner-up in the State Orienteering Championship. Our Varsity team placed 2nd, Junior Varsity team placed 2nd, and the 9th grade team finished 3rd. This was truly a total team effort on a cold but beautiful day in the woods. The courses were fast and so were our cadets. So proud of these young men and women. Thanks so much to the parents who helped in transporting, feeding, and cheering on this team. We now set our sights on the National Championship near Seattle, Washington this March.

Kennesaw Mountain High School

Despite a good effort, the Varsity Rifle Team lost their Rifle Match against Kennesaw Mountain High School on Tuesday, January 26th, 2016 with a score of 1006-1022.

Georgia Navigator Cup - Orienteering

Congratulations to our cadets for a terrific performance at this year's 2016 Navigator Cup Orienteering Meet. Teams from as far away as Virginia and Ohio competed in this Interscholastic championship. Our JV team placed 3rd out of 17 teams. Our Varsity team placed 3rd our of 14 teams. This is the highest finish ever for our teams in this competition. Individually, Mathieu Gazaille, Jake Minta, Jacob Gallichio, Haley Hojnowski, Zach Derrow, Chase Guthrie, Jadie Smith, and Kade Dorweiller all finished in the top ten in their respective categories. Well done to all!

Middleburg Brain Brawl

Our Academics Team participated in a Brain Brawl at Middleburg High School on Saturday, January 16th, 2016. While they didn’t bring home a trophy, it was a great learning experience for our younger, up-and-coming Brawlers.  This was the last regular competition of the year.  The team will now set its sights on the Brain Brawl Championship in mid-March.

Rifle Match Against Lithia Springs

Congratulations to the Varsity Rifle Team for winning their Rifle Match against Lithia Springs High School on Thursday, January 21st, 2016 with a score of 1066-934. They have managed to outdo themselves yet again by setting a new school record.

Chili Cook-Off/Full CPO Meeting

A big thanks to all of the parents who came out to our Annual Chili Cook-Off and Full Cadet-Parent Organization (CPO) meeting on January 21st. In addition to sharing the many successes our unit has enjoyed this year, we also touched on the remaining activities that we have scheduled this year.

Hillgrove Brain Brawl

Hillgrove's NJROTC did a fantastic job hosting a Brain Brawl at Hillgrove on Saturday, January 9th, 2016. This was another great opportunity for Hillgrove’s NJROTC unit and its Cadets to shine and set ourselves apart as one of the very best units in Area-12.  A big thanks to all of the Parents and Cadets who worked so hard to make sure that this was a seamless event.

Air Rifle vs. North Paulding

Congratulations to the Varsity Rifle Team for winning their Rifle Match against North Paulding High School on Thursday, January 14th, 2016 with a score of 1058-1039. This is a new school record.

GA Navigator Cup
SEIS Orienteering Meet
The Orienteering Team participated in the Georgia Navigator Cup January 16th and 17th, 2016. Teams from around the Southeast competed in this event. 

Middleburg Brain Brawl
Our Academics Team participated in a Brain Brawl at Middleburg High School on Saturday, January 16th, 2016.

Bring One for the Chipper
On Saturday, January 2nd, 2016, Cadets had the opportunity to participate in a Community Service event in which they assisted with the collection of Christmas trees for recycling. A big group of hard-working and dedicated Hillgrove NJROTC Cadets took time out of their holiday break to help receive the trees from people, sort them, and get them ready for landscapes around Cobb.

North Cobb Brain Brawl
Great job by our Academic Team today who WON this year's North Cobb Warrior Brain Brawl Classic. Our cadets faced off against many of the top academic teams in Area 12. Our cadets won both their morning and afternoon sessions to qualify for the finals. After falling behind early in the finals, Hillgrove staged a late rally and answered the winning question with less than 10 seconds on the clock. Today's win qualifies them for the Area 12 (State) Championship in March 2016. Well done to another of Hillgrove's outstanding teams.

Westside STS Rifle Meet

We would also like to congratulate the Rifle team for placing 9th our of 27 Sporter teams at the Westside STS Rifle meet in Anniston, Alabama on Saturday, December 12th.

They and also placed 10th out of 33 teams in the area-wide postal competition, which qualified them for the Area (State) Sporter Rifle Championship for the 1st time ever. The Championship will be held in late January in Anniston, AL.

Luella Brain Brawl

We would like to congratulate our Academics Team for finishing 5th in the 20 team Brain Brawl at Luella High School on December 12th, 2015.

NJROTC Holiday Raffle

Congratulations to all of the winners of our Annual Holiday Raffle which was held on December 17, 2015. We raised $3000 for the Unit and Cadets. Thanks again for your continued support of our great program.

Cross Creek Drill Meet

At the regional meet in Augusta, GA the Hillgrove Fighting Hawks took 1st in Academics, Unarmed Basic drill, curl-ups and push-ups, 2nd in Unarmed Exhibition, 4th in Armed Exhibition. 5th is the 16x100 relay. Overall they took 2nd Place and qualified for the Sweet-16 State Championships.

Individual awards: Jared Walker 2nd and Jadie Smith 3rd in Academics. Jake Minta 1st and Mathieu Gazaille 3rd in push-ups. Annalise Coombe 3rd and Zoyie Little 5th in curl-ups!!

Kennesaw Mountain Trail Club

A group of Hillgrove High School NJROTC Cadets were hard at work as they participated in community service in support of the Kennesaw Mountain Trail Club on Saturday, December 12th. A big thanks to the Cadets who took time out of their schedules to help beautify our community as well as to Mike Regan and Connie Jackson for volunteering their time to chaperone the cadets.
