Scholarships for Seniors

Listed are various private scholarship opportunities, organized by month of deadline date.  Scholarships will be added throughout the year. Please check back often for the latest opportunities.  Remember to pay attention to deadlines (postmark and received by dates).  Allow ample time for processing and allow sufficient delivery time.  If letters of recommendation are required, you must personally ask your counselor/teacher.  Give them ample time to complete and indicate date required.  

SEPTEMBER

 U.S. BANK SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM (5, $5,000)…   Scholarship award recipients are selected through a random drawing process.  No essay, GPA or financial need required.  Scholarship Program available to students enrolled by September 1, 2015 at an eligible two-year or four-year college or university (see website for complete contest details).  Apply online by September 30, 2016 at:  www.usbank.com/scholarship

ACORN EQUALITY FUND ($1,000 TO $5, 000)...   The organization provides academic scholarships for gay, lesbian, or transgendered students, allies or the children of gay, lesbian, or transgendered parents. OCTOBER

HORATIO ALGER ASSOCIATION (State scholarship $6, 000 - $10,500; National scholarships $22,000)...   Students must plan to attend college and possess a strong desire to obtain a bachelor's degree.  Applicants must demonstrate financial need ($55,000 or lower adjusted gross family income). Students must have at least a 2.0 GPA and be a US citizen.  Deadline to apply is 4pm October 25, 2016. STOKES EDUCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM (up to $30, 000 per year)...  Applicants must plan to major in computer science or computer/electrical engineering, have an ACT of 25 or higher and a 3.0 GPA.  Students must be eligible to be granted security clearance and demonstrate leadership skills.  If selected as a program participant, you are required to work in your area of study for NSA after your college graduation for at least one and one half times the length of study.  Applications must be submitted online and postmarked by October 31st.  Click the link for more information and the application: Stokes Scholarship Program

NOVEMBER

HAGAN SCHOLARSHIP (up to $10,000 per year)...Students must be a senior in high school and must have attended NCHS for junior and senior year.  Must have 3.5 GPA and an ACT of 23 or higher.  Applicants must enroll in college in the fall of 2016 and work at least 240 hours in the prior 12 months.  For the application and more information visit The Hagan Scholarship Foundation.  Applications are due November 15, 2016.

2017 MOST VALUABLE STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP (up to $12,500 per year)... Sponsored by the Centralia Elks #493, high school seniors who are US citizens may apply.  For the application and more information visit the Elks website. The application deadline is November 30, 2016.

DECEMBER

AIR FORCE ROTC SCHOLARSHIPS…Applicants must have at least a 3.0 GPA and a minimum ACT composite of 26 or minimum SAT of 1180 (math and critical reading portions only).  Must meet physical standards.  In addition, leadership, work experience, extracurricular activities, your questionnaire and personal interview will be considered.  Scholarship can be used at a college or university that has an AFROTC program.  Deadline to apply is before midnight, December 1, 2016.  To begin the application process online, visit:  www.afrotc.com/scholarships

GOLDEN APPLE SCHOLARS OF ILLINOIS (four year total financial assistance = approx. $23,000)…Students with at least a 2.5 GPA interested in becoming teachers in the State of Illinois (at one of the 52 Illinois partner universities) may apply. ACT Composite score of 22+, with combined English/Writing score of 19+ on the same test. Unofficial copies of high school or college transcripts accepted.  Golden Apple Scholars must participate in four Summer Institutes and agree to teach for five years in an Illinois school of need.  To view a list of schools of need, go to: http://www.goldenapple.org/teaching-scholars  The priority deadline to nominate yourself (or have someone else nominate you) is December 1, 2016.  Nominations can be made at:  www.goldenapple.org

NFIB YOUNG ENTREPRENEUR FOUNDATION... Applicants must be a high school senior who owns/operates an established business and plans to enroll  in an accredited two or four year college/university.  Additional information and the application are available by clicking here.  Applications are due December 18, 2016.

 

JANUARY

ARMY ROTC SCHOLARSHIPS…Applicants must have at least a 2.5 GPA, minimum ACT composite of 19 or minimum SAT of 920 (math/verbal), and meet physical standards.  Scholarship can be used at a college or university that has an AROTC program.  Application must be postmarked by 11:59 pm EST, January 10, 2017.  The application process is online at:  www.goarmy.com/rotc/scholarships.jsp

CBAI FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP FOR COMMUNITY BANKING...Applicants must be a high school senior. This scholarship is sponsored by Farmers and Merchants Bank.  Student bank employees plus the immediate families of bank employees, board members, and CBAI employees are ineligible.  Applications are available in the scholarship file in the counseling office.  Applications are due in the counseling office January 20, 2017.

NAVY/MARINE ROTC SCHOLARSHIPSApplicants must be in the top 10% of their graduating class.  Navy and Nurse Option must have a minimum ACT math score of 21 and English score of 22 or a minimum SAT math score of 520 and critical reading score of 530.  Marine option must have a minimum ACT composite score of 22 or combined SAT math and critical reading score of 1000.  Scholarship can be used at a college or university that has a NROTC program.  Application deadline date is January 31, 2017.  For additional information and to begin the application process, visit:  NROTC Site 

FEBRUARY

ILLINOIS CHEMICAL EDUCATION FOUNDATION HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR SCHOLARSHIP ...Applicants must plan to purse chemistry, chemical engineering, environmental engineering, or chemistry education.  Application requirements are available in the scholarship file in the counseling office. Applicants must submit information to ICEF by February 17, 2017. 

KASKASKIA COLLEGE FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP ...The application to apply for the foundation scholarships to Kaskaskia College is now open.  Students may visit the foundation scholarships website for instructions for completing the electronic application.  Students must go to the KC application login and create a login to complete and submit the application.  Applications are due February 27, 2017. 

MARCH

ILLINOIS AMVETS SERVICE FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS...Seven different scholarships are offered. Eligiblity varies by scholarship.  For more information, visit their website. Applications must be postmarked by March 1, 2017.

ILLINOIS ODD FELLOW-REBEKAH SCHOLARSHIP ...Applicants must provide proof of financial need by submitting a current copy of IRS 1040 or proof of electronic filing. Applicants must maintain a "C" grade average.  Applications are available on their website. Applications must be received on or before March 1, 2017. 

ENERGY BOOST UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARASHIP... Available to high school seniors accepted into SIUC's department of mechanical engineering and energy. Click here for the online application .  Deadline to apply is March 10, 2017.
