Tips for Choosing and Narrowing Down Your Choices

Post date: Sep 27, 2013 11:03:07 AM

Here are some strategies you might consider when choosing and narrowing down your topics:

    • everyone in your group should have a voice, so it is important that everyone takes some time to research potential topics

    • choose topics you feel passionate about as it will make your research more interesting

    • creating and sharing a Google Document is an excellent way to build your idea base as everyone's ideas are shared in real time

    • when generating ideas, you should know enough about that particular problem to defend your choice to your group

Narrowing down your problems:

    • it would be great if everyone in your group could come together on Skype, by chatting within your document or through Google Hangouts to choose the final five that your group will study

    • if that is not an option, you might consider having everyone email their top 2 or 3 choices and go from there

    • ideally you will want to select topics that you can find research on

    • keep in mind you will want to be able to: identify the problem, tell what is currently being done about it and provide your own suggestions / strategies on what could be done to solve the problem

    • as a group you will need to decide on the top five

    • if everyone is not able to engage in one conversation, those that can will have to decide with email input from the other members
