Online Classrooms

Teachers in Polk County Public Schools have several options they can use to deliver online instruction to students. If your child's teacher uses one of these options, here is some helpful information to get started.

Google Classroom

(part of G-Suite, known in the district as myPolkApps)

Finding ClassLink...

  1. Go to the district website: polkschoolsfl.com.
  2. Hover over STUDENTS.
  3. Click on Classlink for Students.
  4. Sign in using the student's email address and password (example: willa9821@mypolkschools.net).

Alternative: The direct link to Classlink is:

https://launchpad.classlink.com/mypolk

Use this with the student username (example: willa9821) and password.

...to get to Google Classroom

  1. Click on the G-Suite icon in Classlink
  2. Click on the "waffle" menu at the top.
  3. Click on Classroom.

Alternative: you can go directly to classroom.google.com and bypass Classlink altogether. Just make sure you're signed in with your district account. Personal gmail accounts will not work.

Google Classroom - Kid View

Thanks to Brittany (and Conrad) for creating this video to help students and their families get familiar with Google Classroom!

Google Classroom

Google Classroom allows teachers and students to collaborate, assign work, and turn work in. It also allows teachers to give timely feedback to students. The video on the left gives a great overview of Google Classroom from a student's perspective.

Google Drive

If your teacher is using Google Classroom, you'll want to know how to use the rest of Google's G-Suite apps. These are locally known as "myPolkApps" so you'll hear both terms used. The video on the left gives a quick introduction to G-Suite for students.

Teams - Kid View

Thanks to Brittany (and Conrad) for creating this video to help students and their families get familiar with Microsoft Teams!

Class Teams

Microsoft Teams is a communications hub for team projects. With the addition of the assignments tab, it's become a useful tool for creating digital classrooms. This video shows how to get into a class Team, how to use it, and how to install the application on a computer.

Install Office 365

Microsoft Office 365 applications work just fine inside a web browser. However, every student in Polk County Public Schools has the privilege of installing Office 365 on computers and mobile devices at no charge. Check this video to see how.

Parent FAQ

Q What if I opted my child out of email and supplemental digital resources?

A You will need to contact the school office for each child and reverse this decision.

Q My child's password is not working. How can I reset it?

A Student passwords can be reset by clicking this link (https://password.mypolkschools.net/) and following the instructions.

Q Where to I go for help?

A Your teacher will be able to give students the information they need to access online classrooms.

Q What if I do not have a computer at home?

A The district is working on a plan to check out computers to families that need them. Details will come from your school. The online classroom solutions listed above will work on phones and other mobile devices as well.

Q What if I do not have internet access at home? What if my phone is my only source of internet access?

A The district is working on a plan to check out cellular hotspots to families that need them. Details will come from your school.

Q Can my child use Microsoft Office 365 at home?

A Yes. This will work just fine in the browser for most cases. Students also have the option to install the "full" versions of Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc. from their Office 365 homepage.

Q How do I make Google Classroom work on an iPad on loan from my child's school?

A The Google apps should have been installed before the iPads were checked out. Google's G-Suite will not work from a student's Classlink on an iPad unless the apps have been installed. It's recommended to bypass Classlink altogether for Google apps and have your child sign in to the apps directly.

Q Microsoft Teams isn't working well (or at all) in my browser. What should I do?

A Teams always performs better when the app is installed on the device. If this is a personal device, you can download it from Microsoft or your device's app store. If this is a school device and Teams is not installed, please contact the school.

Q Google Classroom isn't working on my school-issued iPad. How can I fix it?

A There is currently an issue with Google logins on school-issued iPads. The vendors are working on a solution. Please note that Google Classroom will not work in Classlink or in the Safari browser. It must be used with the Google Classroom app installed. If the app is not installed on your student's iPad, please contact your school.
