Attended California State University, Fresno, 1985-1988, graduated in Journalism/Advertising, helped lead the CSUF Advertising Team to Regional Championships and National Top 10 Finishes in 1987-1988. Played football on a Bulldog team that went 20-2-1 over two years and finished sixteenth in the nation in 1985. Served as a graduate assistant coach for two years.
Began teaching career in Clovis Unified in 1996, Golden Apple award winner, served in tech support on site role and nominated for Disney teacher of the year. Taught multiple levels of ELD students in a self contained classroom.
Moved to Coarsegold Unified, winner of the United States Rural Technology Teacher of the Year Award (FRED award) in 2003. Attended Teach the Teachers as a member of the group that would eventually form the Video in the Classroom CUE SIG and listserv. Ran a weekly TV show on campus that operated totally on donations and sales. Served concurrently as district Site Council chairperson, District Tech Coordinator, District ERATE Coordinator, and District Facilities chairperson.
Accepted a position with CTAP7, headquartered in the Fresno County Office of Education. Trainer of teachers (developed dozens of customized workshops on wireless tablets, doc cameras, projectors, iPods, video, and so on), Served as regional tech plan liason, teach plan Reader A and Reader B, developed regional tech plan wiki, facilitated growth of the Slick Rock film festival from 15 competing high schools to 39 competing high schools and 100% growth in entries, developed the "Road to Slick Rock" fall contest in partnership with Comcast, developed the Slick Rock Summer Media Academy (5 day camp for students and teachers), trained teachers at the Teach the Teachers venue, Robert Louis Stevenson school, multiple CVCUE appearances, FCOE's Tenaya Conference for Administrators 2006 and 2007, and custom workshops throughout CTAP Region 7. Worked closely with vendors and county offices to develop IT Leadership workshops, summer technology camps. Worked with the Krause Foundation to develop an 8 day summer tech integration camp.
2008, accepted a position with Chawanakee Unified as Instructional Technology Coordinator, specifically to develop a 21st Century Style high school focused on technology and careers. Worked on instruction design and practice with staff, developed assessments, coordinated all necessary elements for the use of Macbooks in a one to one environment, use of Google Apps for Education, deployed wireless tablets, personal response systems, document cameras and trained staff on their use and integration. Attended CETPA, fall CVCUE (presenter), and CLMS/HS Monterey, and presented on three topics at CUE 2009.
In 2010, Jon was selected as Madera County Teacher of the Year, a "Best of CUE" presenter, an Apple Distinguished Educator, a Google Certified Teacher and YouTube Star Teacher. Served for 2 years as the Director of Charter at Minarets Charter High School as well as the Director of Technology for Chawanakee Unified.
Jon is currently serving as the Assistant Superintendent of Curriciulum and Instruction for Mariposa County Schools.
