Professional-Level Credit Now Available 
through U.C. Santa Barbara Extension!

University of California Santa Barbara Extension offers 3 units of professional-level credit for each of following Montessori teacher-preparation workshop being held this summer in San Luis Obispo County.  The approved course numbers are as follows:

ED X321.-55A  - 062 Montessori Sensorial and Practical Life
ED X321.74 - 035 Montessori Pre-Primary Mathematics and Language
ED X321.75 - 029 Montessori Primary Mathematics and Language
ED X321.86 - 034 Montessori Cultural Subjects

MWEI will apply for credit for the two planned Elementary II courses - details to follow.

The credit fee per course is $90.00.   It is separate from the workshop fee ($450) and cost of manuals (varies by course).

UCSb Extension credit is optional and can be applied for during the course activity.  



Course I (ages 2-1/2 - 6)


1) Sensorial Education and Practical Life

                                         


Location:  Montessori Children's School, San Luis Obispo

Course Instructor: Nancy Dwyer

This workshop, or series of classes, provides demonstrations of activities that help promote the development of intelligence.  Through work with sensorial materials, children develop the ability to match and grade colors, sounds, textures, weights and shapes.  Using practical life material, children learn basic care of themselves and their environment and to be contributing members of a group. The course covers the use of these materials in activities designed to develop independence, order, coordination and concentration. 30 hours.


2) Beginning Math and Reading



Location: Children's House Montessori School, Atascadero
July 3 - 7, 2017.......... $450.00 EB: $400
9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Required Manuals: Beginning Reading ($30) and Beginning Math ($30) plus CA tax

Course Instructor: Nancy Dwyer

This class presents the specific Montessori materials used in the development of early concrete number concepts and basic math operations including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, as well as materials for helping children to learn to read. Reading will include forming letters, learning basic phonetic sounds, building words, decoding phonograms and identifying grammatical parts of speech.  30 hours.


Course II (ages 6 - 9)


3) Primary Math and Language



Location: Montessori Children's School, San Luis Obispo
July 10 - 14, 2017............. $450.00

9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Required Manuals: Primary Math ($30) and Primary Grammar ($30) plus CA tax

Course Instructor: Nancy Dwyer

This class continues the development of skills and specific curriculum materials for the teaching of math operations including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, factors and fractions.  The language curriculum presents phonograms and concrete grammar exercises along with the parts of speech.  30 hours.


Diploma Examinations (Application Required/ 6-week Advance Notice)

4) Cultural Subjects



Location:  MWEI Office/Classroom, Cambria
July 17 - 21, 2017............ $450.00 EB: $400
9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Required Manual: Cultural Subjects ($40) plus CA tax

Course Instructor: Jessy Ford

This class presents the Montessori approach to the arts, music, drama, geography, history, botany and zoology. Students learn active, hands-on methods for helping children to learn about how the earth is represented by the globe and maps while learning about the world's people and places and the wonders of nature. 30 hours.
