Course I (ages 2-1/2 - 6)


    1) Sensorial Education and Practical Life

                                         


Location:  Montessori World Educational Institute, Cambria                                            
June 24 - 28, 2019.................$450.00 EB: $400
9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Required Manuals: Sensorial Education ($30) and Practical Life ($30) plus CA tax

Course Instructor: Nancy Dwyer

This workshop, or series of classes, provides demonstrations of activities that help promote the development of intelligence.  Through work with sensorial materials, children develop the ability to match and grade colors, sounds, textures, weights and shapes.  Using practical life material, children learn basic care of themselves and their environment and to be contributing members of a group. The course covers the use of these materials in activities designed to develop independence, order, coordination and concentration. 30 hours.



    2) Beginning Math and Reading



Location: Montessori World Educational Institute, Cambria
July 1 - 5, 2019......... $450.00 EB: $400
9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Required Manuals: Beginning Reading ($30) and Beginning Math ($30) plus CA tax

Course Instructor: Nancy Dwyer

This class presents the specific Montessori materials used in the development of early concrete number concepts and basic math operations including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, as well as materials for helping children to learn to read. Reading will include forming letters, learning basic phonetic sounds, building words, decoding phonograms and identifying grammatical parts of speech.  30 hours.



Course II (ages 5-7)

        Course Instructor: Nancy Dwyer


An early childhood education course designed for teachers and parents of children ages 5-7.  Lecture-demonstrations show specific Montessori curriculum materials for helping children build a strong foundation for math and language. The math component presents materials for understanding our number system and the processes of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, as well as mastering math facts, factors and multiples and fractions. The language component presents materials for developing reading comprehension, and an understanding of grammar and writing style.



          4) Cultural Subjects


        Location: Montessori World Educational Institute, Cambria
        July 15 - 19, 2019......... $450.00 EB: $400
        9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
        Required Manuals: Cultural Subjects ($40) plus CA tax

This class presents an introduction to the Montessori approach for teaching Music, Art and Handwork, Geography, History and Biology.  Design for interactive curricula is demonstrated.

                Saturday & Sunday November 17th & 18th and December 1st & 2nd 2018........... $450.00 EB: $400

                Required Manual: Music Education for Young Children ($40) plus CA tax

                Course Instructor: Sonya Lanzen-Castellanos      


                This Music Education course is designed for educators, parents, and other adults working with young children ages 0-12. Lectures and demonstrations present core principle
                s for engaging the learner in the exploration, discovery, and development of music concepts, appreciation, and ability. A review of cognitive neuroscience research 
                includes discussion of the implications for providing essential music opportunities early in life during sensitive periods (0-6) to maximize neural pathways and potential 
                and to maintain neural plasticity later in life and thus enhance quality of life. Presentations and discussions include an overview of the developmental framework, the 
                sequence of music development and abilities, and the essential role of the informed and prepared adult to provide the conditions and opportunities necessary in order f
                or the child to develop fully. Participants will enhance their own personal and professional music development as they explore the basic components of providing
                a good music foundation for young children to include: music listening, singing, movement, making and playing musical instruments, supporting social 
                emotional intelligence through music, creative expression, social connections and community building.

through U.C. Santa Barbara Extension!

 

            University of California Santa Barbara Extension offers 3 units of post-graduate, professional-level credit for each of following                   Montessori teacher-preparation workshop being held this summerin San Luis Obispo County.  The approved course numbers are as follows:

            The credit fee per course is $90.00 and is separate from the workshop fee ($450) and cost of manuals.

 

            UCSB Extension credit is optional and can be applied for during the course activity.
