What We Are Learning

  • Welcome to the 2017-2018 School Year! Welcome back. I hope everyone had a wonderful summer vacation. I am excited to meet all the new second grade students. We have an exciting year ahead of us. We will be team teaching this year in grade 2. It is exciting and new for the students. We will work closely with each child to make this a smooth transition. Your second grade team of teachers this year will be: Mrs.Stevens (homeroom, word work, and writing), Mrs. Cochrane (homeroom, word work, and math), and Mrs. Parrotto (homeroom, word work, and reading).   • May/June We are busy busy! The end of the year has brought closure to a few items. We finished our work with addition and subtraction. Please keep the facts through 20 fresh in your mind by practicing over the summer. Quick flashcard work is great. We are currently working through some data collection and graphing our results as well as exploring 2D and 3D shapes. The end of the year will lead to a great introduction to beginning third grade math. Students will be coming home with their math workbooks. At the end of the workbook is a "step up " section. This is a great opportunity to keep the knowledge of the concepts and skills practiced fresh over the summer. The ...

  • April 2017 It seems winter wants to stay a bit longer. Please come to school prepared for the weather. The students are busy working on comic strips in writing. We have been looking at how authors and illustrators use story elements. The students are doing a great job coming up with funny and interesting comics. We will continue to write using story elements until vacation. We will use this knowledge to help us when we start a new unit on Fairytales after vacation. This unit will involve work in reading, writing, math and science. We are excited to start. Students are doing a great job staying on task and taking ownership of their learning.
