Many pairs of snow pants have gone missing.  Please write you child's name on his or her snow pants so they can more easily be found.  Black snow pants are very easily confused since about 90% or the ones at school are black. Thanks for your help.

Popcorn Fridays: students have a chance to order popcorn for snack on Friday. It's $.25

Toys:please leave all toys at home

Second Grade Happenings

  • Telling Time and Counting Money in Math We finished up our unit on time and counting money.  Our goals was to tell time to the nearest 5 minutes.  Most students said they didn't have an analogue clock at home to practice with.  In the age of cell phones and electronic devices we see these less and less.  If you see one, ask your child what time it is for extra practice! Do you have some change in your pocket?  This is a great opportunity for your child to tell you how much you have. So few people use actual money these days with debit cards that this again was a challenge for some.  Keep practicing so your child doesn't forget the coins and their values

  • States of Matter The kids began exploring the three states of matter (solids, liquids, and gases) with a video clip you can check out here:States of Matter

  • Writing as Scientists Second graders finished up a unit using fractured fairy tales with a focus on character development, using quotations, story order, strong endings, and adding feeling, thoughts, and actions throughout their own fractured fairy tale. The students did a great job. We are starting our new writing unit on lab reports. During this unit, we will be scientists, exploring different processes on earth through the scientific process. Students will conduct experiments while asking questions, hypothesizing, testing, retesting, and drawing conclusions. Our first two weeks we focused on the parts and vocabulary of the scientific method while exploring force and motion. We will continue science experiments this week using rocks and minerals, while talking about erosion.
