Dear Parents and Guardians,

It's hard to believe it is already the middle of January. The school year is flying by but we still have a lot of learning ahead of us! This week we will be starting our next social studies unit, which is focused on Immigration. We are so lucky to have Mr. Sandu presenting to Grade 5 on Tuesday about his experience coming to America.

In math, we are beginning Topic 6. This topic focuses on dividing decimals. Students will be bringing home their Topic assessments this Friday. We are also continuing to use Reflex Math. This program is helping the students build up their multiplication and division facts. It it much more interactive and engaging then Xtramath. Your child can also use this program at home. I put the link on the left hand side.

In reading and writing, we are continuing with our Argument and Advocacy unit. Throughout this unit, students will be learning how to write an argument paper using text evidence and giving credit to those texts. We will be holding flash debates about different topics. Students will need to state their claim or position and provide factual evidence. This is a very fun unit!

We are half way to reaching our goal to get some new seating options. Please take a look at our class project on Donor's Choose. Once the project is funded our items will be ordered and shipped!
