School Counselor's Purpose
A school counselor's primary responsibility is to promote the academic, personal and social development of all students. To meet the needs of all students and families, a school counselor may meet individually with students or in small groups. They may also conduct classroom lessons, meet with parents or guardians, and collaborate with teachers and staff. Any student can request to meet with the school counselor or they may be referred by a teacher, administrator, or parent.
At Penacook Elementary School some of the responsibilities of the school counselor include:
Working on Wellness Block Instruction (Whole Class)
Small group and individual counseling
Crisis Intervention
Behavior Management programs and plan
Intervention Team and Special Education Team Member
Coordinator of student services with community providers
504 Coordinator
Homeless Liason
Penacook Elementary School is fortunate to have a family support worker, who is also a certified school counselor. The family support worker assists parents and guardians in accessing community services and overcoming hurdles that impact a child's performance at school. Families and students can work with Mrs. Walsh-Green in the school setting or at home. Students may work in groups or individually.
