The College of Science, Engineering and Technology at Murray State University offers several options leading to a pre-professional degree. These include pre-medicine, pre-dentistry, pre-optometry, pre-physical therapy, pre-pharmacy, physician's assistant and biomedical sciences. Each option is based upon a recommended curriculum designed to better prepare students for their chosen profession, and includes the individual required courses for each of the different types of professional school.
The Pre-Health Professionals Program at Murray State University is an organization whose mission is to assist students in preparing for entrance to health related professional schools. The primary focus of the program is for students working on a career path to medical school, dental school or optometry school. However, the program can help students seeking entrance to other health related professional schools. Students pursuing any major at MSU are welcome to participate in the program.
The success of the PHP program at MSU is not measured by the number of freshmen students who eventually gain entrance to professional school. This is because of the high number of underclassmen, from all disciplines, who switch majors during their degree path. Rather, the success of the PHP program is measured by a determination of the number of students who successfully gain entrance to professional school when they have been recommended by the PHP-AC in their student summary evaluation. From past years, approximately 90% of students endorsed by the PHP-AC have gained entrance to the professional school of their choice.
