New PhD Position Available

A PhD position is available with Dr. Amy Marcarelli at Michigan Technological University to join a 5-year, NSF-funded study of the balance between nitrogen fixation and denitrification in streams and rivers across the United States. This student will work with a dynamic team of collaborators, graduate students and undergraduate researchers to study the environmental and ecological controls on net N₂ flux in streams. The ideal candidate will undertake comparative and experimental studies across field sites focused in the UP of Michigan, but extending to include a variety of sites from Puerto Rico to Alaska. Four years of RA funding (including tuition) are available to support this student, and teaching opportunities are also available in the Department of Biological Sciences at Michigan Tech. All candidates must have prior experience working in field settings and be able to take on extended field campaigns, work well with a team as well as independently, and have skills and interest in aquatic biogeochemistry. Desired qualifications also include an excellent academic record, a good quantitative background (including statistics), and strong writing and computing skills. Candidates with an M.S. in aquatic ecology or related discipline are preferred; only substantial research and prior publication experience will be considered in lieu of a Master’s degree.
