Our Programme

Mt Cook Preschool offers a warm, safe and caring environment with planned learning experiences.

Activities are built on the children’s current strengths, interests and needs both individually and in groups. We see education as a partnership between families and teachers, and invite whanau input into our activities at preschool.

Children’s learning is documented in profile books, and e-profiles, that are accessible for children and their families.  We encourage parents and whanau to share information regarding their child’s current interests or activities at home.

E-profiles allow families and other relatives, for example grandparents in other cities, to view and contribute information about their child via a secure online system.

Daily Sessions       Monday to Friday   8:30am-2:45pm, with some 8:30am-1:00pm, spaces during school terms

Parent Involvement

We welcome and encourage parent involvement in the centre.  There are many ways to be involved, for example:

      - Management Committee

      - Sharing skills

      - Helping out during session

      - Excursions

Each family's commitment to being part of the preschool community is to undertake cleaning duties at the end of a session 5 times each term.

Shared lunches are usually held once a term which provide an opportunity for children and families to spend time together a preschool.

Policies and procedures guide the way our centre operates.  Parents are invited to take part in our review processes and have input into these policies on a regular basis.

Water and “messy” play are regular activities in our programme. Children need to be dressed in appropriate clothes for preschool and an extra set of clothes packed in the child's bag.

At around 10.30am we have a shared morning tea of fruit, and then we give the children their packed morning tea. The children will have their lunch at home. Please provide a substantial morning tea for your child. (i.e. sandwiches, crackers, yoghurt, snacks)

At 1:00pm, children who are enrolled for the afternoon have lunch.

We have a healthy food policy. ie– no lollies, chocolate, chips or fizzy drinks

It is our expectation that children will be toilet trained when they are enrolled at preschool, unless there are special circumstances. Please discuss this further with a teacher if necessary.
